Formula and method
Price per ounce = package price ÷ weight in ounces. For pounds multiply by 16; for grams divide by 28.349523125.
Worked example
e.g., a $5.49 bag weighing 12 oz costs approximately $0.4575 per oz.
When should you use price per ounce?
Use this comparison for groceries, bulk ingredients, and products sold in different packet sizes. Compare the same product type and the same usable or drained weight; promotions and taxes may change the final checkout price.
